JEDDAH 19 February 2019 — As part of its mandate to bring consular services to Filipinos under its jurisdiction, a team from the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah rendered its third consular mobile services for 2019 in Jizan, in the southwest corner of Saudi Arabia, on 15 to 16 February 2019.
The consular team processed 281 passport applications, 80 legalization of documents including certifications and police clearance endorsements, and eight related services including passport validity extensions and issuance of travel documents.
Representatives from the Philippine Overseas Labor Office, Office of the Social Welfare Attaché, Pag-IBIG Fund, and Social Security System also joined the consular mission to offer their respective services.
As in previous consular missions, Social Welfare Attaché Priscilla Razon interviewed Saudi employers and their Filipino household service workers (HSWs) to check whether Filipinos are receiving their rightful entitlements under Saudi labor laws.
The Consulate General conducts consular mobile services in Jizan at least twice a year for the benefit of Filipinos in the area who have to take a seven-and-a-half-hour land travel or an hour-and-a-half plane ride just to get to Jeddah for their consular needs.
The first consular mission in Najran was successfully conducted with the support and cooperation of members of the Filipino Community led by Rosie Camacho.
Jizan is home to an estimated 8,000 Filipinos comprising semi-skilled workers, medical personnel, and HSWs. END
