HONG KONG 26 February 2019 – To promote breast health and wellness, the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong, in partnership with the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation (HKBCF), organized the Free Breast Exam, Mammogram and Talk at the HKBCF’s Breast Health Centre in Ngau Chi Wan, Kowloon on 17 February 2019.
Now on its eighth year, the project offered free breast screening, mammogram services, and a talk on breast health to the members of the Filipino Community in Hong Kong who currently number 230,000, more than nine out of 10 of whom are women. There were 55 Filipino women migrant workers who participated in the event.
“We must take care of our health in order for us to be productive and to contribute more to the society and to the community,” advocated Consul General to Hong Kong Antonio A. Morales during his welcome remarks.
Consul General Morales led the Consulate General team, while the HKBCF was represented by Senior Health Service Officer Grace Chung, who is also the head of HKBCF’s Breast Health Centre.
During the breast health talk, Ms. Chung discussed symptoms, statistics, and risk factors of breast cancer, as well as how to conduct self-examination and breast cancer treatment, during the talk on breast health.
Health and wellness, especially among Filipino workers, is one of Consul General Morales’ priority initiatives as head of post. Based on the Consulate General’s statistics, breast cancer is one of the leading causes of death among Filipinos in Hong Kong.
Consul General Morales also thanked HKBCF for its continued partnership and support in providing overseas Filipino workers in Hong Kong access to free health services.
