PH Consulate General in Milan Joins in Int’l Mother Language Month Celebration
PHOTO: The Philippine Consulate General in Milan participated in the celebration of International Mother Language Day at the Bangladesh Consulate General on 21 February 2019 with the recitation of Jose Corazon de Jesus’ “Bayan Ko” by Katrina Teresa De Guzman, Janna Leigh Danielle A. Medina, and Zoe Gabrielle C. Atim.
Children of various ages from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka performed songs and literary compositions in their mother tongue while students from international schools recited poems in English with the themes of freedom, peace, and harmony.
Consul General to Milan Irene Susan B. Natividad said that our mother tongue defines what we are and who we are as a person and people, and it is important to promote one’s mother tongue to keep it alive and save it from extinction.
International Mother Language Day was an initiative of Bangladesh approved at the 1999 UNESCO General Conference and has been observed annually throughout the world since 2000. (Milan PCG photos)
