PH Promotes Trade, Investment and Tourism in Kurdistan

BAGHDAD 04 March 2019 — The Philippine Embassy in Baghdad, led by Chargé d'affaires, e.p. Julius D. Torres, met with Iraqi-Kurdish businessmen to promote trade, investment and tourism between the Philippines and the Kurdistan Region.
The event themed “Opening Avenues for Tourism and Investment in the Philippines” was held at Hanzo Hotel on 23 February 2019, and was attended by 50 different heads of Kurdish companies, mostly in the tourism and travel sectors.
Chargé d'affaires Torres cited steps to be taken by the Embassy to improve the relations between the people of Kurdistan Region of Iraq and the Philippines, and to open opportunities for trade, investment and partnerships with the Iraqi-Kurdish businessmen by exposing the Philippines as a market to Iraqi-Kurdish travelers.
Political Adviser Dr. Saman Sorani of the Department of Foreign Relations of the Kurdistan Regional Government served as the guest speaker, while Association of Industry and Trade Development of Iraqi Businessmen President AbdulAlah Saleh Al-Dabbagh headed the group of Iraqi-Kurdish businessmen.
After the presentation, Chargé d'affaires Torres answered questions from the businessmen who conveyed their interest in visiting the Philippines.
