PH Consulate General in Toronto Attends 2019 Toronto Garrison Officers’ Ball
TORONTO 11 March 2019 — At the invitation of Royal Regiment of Canada Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Joseph A. Nonato, the Philippine Consulate General in Toronto’s Deputy Consul General Bernadette Therese C. Fernandez and Cultural Officer Cecilia D. Santos attended the 2019 Toronto Garrison Officers’ Ball hosted by the Royal Regiment of Canada on 23 February 2019. They represented Ambassador to Canada Petronila P. Garcia and Consul General to Toronto Rosalita S. Prospero.
This year’s theme, “Till the Troops Come Home,” honors the service of Canadian military forces in defense of Canada, and acknowledges the support of soldiers’ families who are at the heart of Toronto Garrison’s continuing mission.
Deputy Consul General Fernandez conveyed the good wishes of Ambassador Garcia and Consul General Prospero to Lieutenant Colonel Nonato, who is very proud of their ethnic Filipino heritage.
The Lieutenant Colonel assumed the position of Commanding Officer of the Royal Regiment of Canada on 04 June 2017. He is the first Filipino-Canadian to lead this institution, one of Canada’s oldest and largest regiments.
Lt. Col. Nonato shared that his stint as Commanding Officer is for three years. He expressed his desire to meet with his counterparts in the Philippines during his tenure as Commanding Officer. END
