PHOTO: In celebration of International Women’s Day, the female staff of the Philippine Consulate General in Sydney welcomed female passport applicants and distributed bookmarks with the logo of this year’s theme “We Make Change Work for Women” at the Grand Ballroom, International Convention Centre in Sydney on 08 March 2019.

The Consulate General also provided a special lane for women passport applicants called “Serbisyo Para Kay Juana,” and served morning tea, coffee and biscuits to the early applicants.

In relation to the commemoration of International Women’s Day in Sydney, the Consulate General’s Alternate Gender and Development Focal Point Officer Maybel N. Marinay-Caparino attended the event “Women’s Day Breakfast–We Are More Powerful Together!” organized by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and hosted by the United Nations Women National Committee (NC) Australia. NC Australia hosts the country’s largest International Women’s Day celebrations in March each year.

The activity was attended by more than a thousand participants, with speakers and panelist including Non-Executive Director and Sustainability Adviser Sam Mostyn, Uniliver Australia and New Zealand Executive Officer Clive Stiff, and UN Women Country Program Coordinator for Samoa Mele Maualaivao.

Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs Marise Payne delivered a welcome address at the breakfast.

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating economic, political and social achievements of women. It is also a day to assess how far women have come in their struggle for equality, peace, and development. This celebration also provides an opportunity to unite, network, and mobilize funds to foster meaningful change into the future. (Sydney PCG photos)
