PH Embassy Participates in Trilateral Maritime Patrol and Port Visit to Tarakan Island

JAKARTA 11 March 2019 – The Philippine Embassy in Jakarta, represented by its Defense and Armed Forces Attaché Captain Zosimo M. Bolaños Jr., participated in the trilateral maritime patrol and port visit of Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines in Tarakan, Island, Indonesia from 25 to 27 February 2019.
This is a regular joint naval activity hosted alternately by the three countries under Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines (INDOMALPHI) Trilateral Cooperative Framework.
The purpose of the activity is to strengthen the relationship, and enhance mutual cooperation and interoperability of the three countries through the development of combined maritime rules of engagement.
It was held in Tarakan Island in the North Kalimantan Province, located in the Western Celebes and Sulawesi Sea off the northeastern coast of Borneo and approximately 100 kilometers south of the Malaysia border in Eastern North Kalimantan.
It is a strategically important location in Indonesia because it was a significant staging area during the Pacific War, and serves as a popular transit city for trade between Indonesia and Malaysia. END
