PH Consul General Attends Celebration of Black History Month in Chicago

CHICAGO 12 March 2019 — On the occasion of Black History Month, Consul General to Chicago Gina Jamoralin attended the 25th Annual C.F. Stradford Awards Ceremony, hosted by Illinois Cook County State Attorney Kimberly M. Foxx, at Parkway Ballroom in Chicago on 28 February 2019. 

This year’s ceremony honored four exemplary members of the African-American community namely, Judge John F. Lyke Jr. of the Circuit Court of Cook Count, Pastor Chris Harris of Bright Star Church, Judge Cornelius E. Toole (posthumous award), and Reverend Jesse Jackson Sr. of Rainbow Push Coalition.

Consul General Jamoralin greeted State Attorney Foxx during the event, and thanked her for the support of the State Attorney’s Office to the Filipino communities living in Cook County. Consul General Jamoralin was accompanied by Atty. Alvar Rosales, the Consulate General’s Administrative Officer and Legal Officer.

The Cook County State Attorney’s Office hosted this annual gathering in observance of Black History Month to honor outstanding judges, lawyers, law clerks, and community leaders or organizations of the African-American community.

Black History Month is observed annually in the United States, where it is also known as African-American History Month, from February 1 until February 28. The occasion dates back to 1926, and is celebrated in February which coincides with the birth anniversary of U.S. President Abraham Lincoln on February 12 and of American social reformer Frederick Douglass on February 14.
