SAN FRANCISCO 12 March 2019 – The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco commemorated the 33rd anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution through a Eucharistic celebration at the Philippine Center’s Social Hall on 1 March 2019.

The mass was concelebrated by Filipino-American priests Father Arnold Zamora and Father Noel Sanvicente of the Dioceses of San Francisco and San Jose, respectively.

In his homily, Father Sanvicente recalled how he, as a young priest, was proud to be identified as a Filipino in the wake of the peaceful EDSA People Power Revolution. He underscored that EDSA’s peace and success were the fruit of prayers and supplication of the only Christian Catholic nation in Asia.

Consul General Henry S. Bensurto Jr. also gave his brief remarks on the EDSA celebration and stressed on the need for people, especially the youth, to remember history’s lessons.

The celebration’s theme was hinged on President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s statement on the EDSA anniversary, where he said that he is hopeful that this occasion will inspire all of us, especially the younger generation, to deeply value the freedom and liberty that we won in EDSA.

A video presentation on the historic events leading to EDSA was shown to the attendees. The celebration was capped by a Filipino lunch at the Social Hall. END
