MANADO 18 March 2019 — The Philippine Consulate General in Manado and the Filipino community in Makassar worked together to promote study opportunities and top tourist destinations in the Philippines at the Makassar Diplofest 2019, held at the Celebes Convention Center in Makassar City in South Sulawesi, Indonesia on 23 February 2019.
The event was organized by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which featured thematic areas for education, culture, cuisine, and music. An estimated 7,000 students from 100 high schools and universities attended the event.
The Consulate General manned the Philippine booth which featured the country’s educational system, top Philippine schools, learning opportunities in the Philippines for foreign students, and top tourist destinations in the country.
Members of the Filipino community prepared Filipino snacks which they shared with Indonesian students who visited the booth, and responded enthusiastically to the queries of Indonesian students who showed interest in visiting and studying in the Philippines.
The highlight of the event is a talk show where participating foreign missions and international organizations were given half an hour to speak about current issues and opportunities in diplomacy and education abroad.
For the Philippine session, Vice Consul Manuel Ayap delivered a brief presentation about study opportunities for Indonesians in the Philippines. He also introduced the social media group “Phil-Indo Student Forum,” where interested Indonesian students can join to receive regular updates on study opportunities in the Philippines and interact with Philippine academic institutions and Filipino students.
