06 February 2014 - The Philippine Embassy in Vientiane brought Christmas joy and smiles to the Filipino community children in a Mano po Ninang, Mano po Ninong “Embassy Open-House event” held on 11 December 2013.
The children experienced the Filipino Christmas tradition of Ninangs/Ninongs or elders giving blessings and giving gifts to children. Each of the kids who came for the event received their Christmas presents from their Ninangs and Ninongs at the Embassy who prepared gifts and goody bags for the children. Children comfort foods of Filipino style spaghetti, cupcakes, sandwiches, among others, were served. While they were enjoying the treats, the movie “The Santa Clause” was shown to fill the event with the season’s spirit.
This event was organized in lieu of the annual Filipino community Christmas Party and in sympathy with fellow Filipinos affected by typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan). Parents and guardians who accompanied the children expressed great appreciation for the activity which they said gave the kids an opportunity to experience a Filipino Christmas and get together with other Filipino kids in Laos. The children meanwhile enjoyed playing with their friends and roaming around the Embassy grounds. END
