VIENNA 19 March 2019 – Ambassador to Austria Maria Cleofe R. Natividad met with Salzburg Federal State Governor Dr. Wilfried Haslauer at the Federal Parliament in Salzburg City on 28 February 2019.

Also present at the meeting were Honorary Consul to Salzburg Thomas Wagner, and his father, retired Honorary Consul General Peter Wagner Sr.

During the meeting, Ambassador Natividad raised the possibility of pursuing the conclusion of a nursing agreement with Austria that would address the growing need for healthcare workers in the country. For his part, Governor Haslauer welcomed the prospect of an agreement between governments on Filipino nurses, who are seen in Austria as resilient, polite, and qualified German-speaking professionals.

The Ambassador also conveyed to the Governor her goal of further advancing cultural relations between the Philippines and Austria, specifically through exchanges of musical talents, and through a potential sister-city agreement between Salzburg and a like-minded city in the Philippines.

The meeting then concluded with a symbolic exchange of tokens. Both Ambassador Natividad and Governor Haslauer expressed their fervent hope that bilateral relations will be further strengthened when the Philippines and Austria celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties in 2021.
