LISBON 19 March 2019 – Dr. Francis Aldrine Uy, a registered civil engineer and Mapua University’s Dean of the School of Civil, Environmental and Geological Engineering, received a World Summit Award (WSA) for the development of the Universal Structural Health Evaluation and Recording (USHER) at the WSA Global Congress in Cascais, Portugal on 12 March 2019.

Funded by the Department of Science and Technology, the USHER system was chosen among the 180 participating United Nations member-states as one of the world’s best digital content solutions under the Smart Settlements and Urbanization category of the WSA Global Congress.

The USHER system is a building structure health-monitoring system with an accelerograph sensor and a web portal system. The technology can be installed in all types of buildings and structures, allowing building managers to monitor a building’s structural integrity and ensure economical, hassle-free compliance with government regulations.

On 15 March 2019, Dr. Uy and Chief Technology Officer Engr. Donato Santiago paid a courtesy call on Ambassador to Portugal Celia Anna M. Feria at the Philippine Embassy in Lisbon to discuss the USHER system.

Ambassador Feria assured Dr. Uy and Engr. Santiago that because of its many practical applications, the Filipino-made USHER technological innovation will be one of the products that will be promoted and marketed by the Embassy to Portugal and to the four African countries under its concurrent jurisdiction.

The 2019 WSA Global Congress Cascais features the 40 global winners in eight WSA categories and the WSA Young Innovators. The WSA Congress ran from 11 to 13 March 2019. END
