PH Embassy in Cairo Conducts Consular Mission, Meets Filipino Community in Alexandria

CAIRO 20 March 2019 — As part of its mandate to provide consular services to Filipinos under its jurisdiction, a team from the Philippine Embassy in Cairo traveled to Alexandria, Egypt for its annual consular outreach program.
The consular team served a total of 37 passport applicants, five of whom were minors. Twenty notarial services were also provided.
The consular team was led by Third Secretary and Vice Consul Bojer B. Capati, accompanied by Digna M. Lopez, Nerisa N. Anastacio, Lady Hadaynah A. Mangca, Walter C. Rosario and Arlene M. Valencia.
On 16 March 2019, Ambassador to Egypt Sulpicio M. Confiado and Madame Precie R. Confiado, assisted by Cultural Officer Rammaila V. Tolentino, met the Filipino community in Alexandria and discussed the importance of the Filipinos’ presence in Egypt.
Ambassador Confiado stressed the special role of future generation Filipino-Egyptians in bridging the two cultures together and enhancing people-to-people connection between Filipinos and Egyptians. He introduced proposals for possible language courses and lessons on Filipino traditions and cultures for second generation Filipino-Egyptians.
Madame Confiado also presented the Leadership and Social Entrepreneurship (LSE) Program of the Ateneo de Manila University's School of Government, an empowerment program targeting overseas Filipinos workers in the areas of leadership, financial literacy and social entrepreneurship. The program was positively welcomed by members of the audience.
There are approximately 5,715 Filipino nationals in Egypt, with around 78 percent based in Cairo. After Cairo, Alexandria is the city with the greatest number of Filipinos, followed by Sharm El Sheikh. END
