07 February 2014 – Philippine Ambassador to Nigeria Alex Lamadrid and Vice Consul Ralf Roldan celebrated the Chinese Lunar New Year with the Nigerian Carton and Packaging Manufacturing Company Limited (NICAPACO) officials and its 12 Filipino employees at a dinner hosted by the company at the New China Restaurant, Lagos, Nigeria on February 01.
The Embassy officials also visited the company premises to look into the working conditions of the OFW’s.
Mr. Anthony Shu, Managing Director, expressed his desire to hire more Filipinos in future, noting the Filipinos’ highly regarded competence and work ethics.
Upon meeting with the Filipinos, Ambassador Lamadrid took the opportunity to inquire on their welfare. The Filipinos responded that they are content with how the management is treating them and that they have no work-related problems.
Ambassador Lamadrid likewise reminded the Filipinos of the Philippine government programs for the benefit of OFWs and their families, such as Pag-IBIG and Philhealth, and their participation in the national elections through the Overseas Absentee Voting. The Ambassador also reminded them of their responsibilities to their families back home. Likewise, the Ambassador also cautioned them to take care of their health to prevent getting tropical infectious diseases such as malaria and HIV-AIDS.
NICAPACO officials and the Filipino employees expressed their appreciation for the visit by the Embassy officials. END
