ASEAN Committee in Ankara Conducts Seminar at the Middle East Technical Univ

ANKARA 22 March 2019 – The ASEAN Committee in Ankara (AAC), in cooperation with the Middle East Technical University (METU) spearheaded by International Relations Professor Dr. Huseyin Bagci, conducted an academic ASEAN Seminar at METU on 13 March 2019 with the latter’s invitation to raise greater ASEAN awareness.

Thai Ambassador Phantipha Iamsudha Ekarohit and Vietnamese Ambassador Tran Quang Tuyen, as the current ASEAN Chair and the AAC Chair, respectively, served as the speakers during the panel. Thai Ambassador gave a historical background of ASEAN while Vietnamese Ambassador gave a presentation on ASEAN-Turkey cooperation from the past until present and the potentials for other areas of cooperation, considering that Turkey was conferred with the status of ASEAN Sectoral Dialogue Partner in 2017.

Chargé d'Affaires and Consul General Enrique Voltaire Pingol participated in the seminar representing the Philippine Embassy in Ankara. 

The ACC was represented by the representatives of the seven resident diplomatic missions of ASEAN Member-States in Ankara namely Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam.

The seminar was attended by more than 150 students and faculty members of the university, think tanks as well as officials form the Turkish Foreign Ministry. An ASEAN panel exhibit was also left on display at the university with the panels consisting of ASEAN-Turkey relations and the country profiles of each ASEAN Member-State. END
