PHOTO: The Philippine Consulate General in Calgary, led by Consul General Gilberto G.B. Asuque (fifth from right, second row), shared comments and suggestions on the various programs and events planned by various Filipino community organizations in Alberta in their celebration of Philippine Heritage Month in June.
The Alberta Provincial Government has proclaimed June of each year as Philippine Heritage Month, in recognition of the significant contribution of Filipino-Canadians in Alberta to the social, economic, cultural and historical richness of the province and who represent a vibrant and dynamic component of its cultural mosaic.
The Federal Government has also issued a Resolution declaring June of each year as Philippine Heritage Month all over Canada.
The Consul General joined in the forum organized by the Diaryo Alberta Society held at the Fish Creek Library in Calgary. The forum discussed coordination with the various Filipino organizations on the schedule of their events in June, the theme of the events that would focus on the contributions of Filipino-Canadians to the Alberta society, and the celebration by the Consulate General on 12 June of the 121st anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence and the 70th anniversary of Philippines-Canada diplomatic relations.
