11 February 2014 - The Philippine Embassy in Dhaka, Bangladesh participated in the American International School Dhaka (AISD) International Fair held at the school’s campus on February 7.
The Philippine booth showcased the country’s best with its display of Philippine handicrafts and accessories made of capiz and mother of pearl. The booth featured the attractions of Vigan, Ilocos Sur which the Embassy is campaigning to be chosen as one of the New7Wonders Cities. The Heritage City of Vigan joins 27 other finalists in the global campaign.
An array of Filipino dishes such as fried lumpia rolls, arroz caldo, biko and siopao, prepared by parents of AISD Filipino students, invited crowds of visitors to the booth.
The Philippine participation was even made remarkable by the cultural performance of the members of the Filipino community with the modern rendition of the ‘Tinikling’ dance to the tune of Michael Jackson’s ‘They Don’t Care About Us’. Students and visitors at the fair expressed their awe and praises on the set-up of the booth and the cultural presentation.
The AISD International Fair is an annual event organized by the school’s Parent Teacher Association which aims to promote the diversity of cultures present at the school through food, handicrafts and other forms of art. Parents of the students usually seek assistance from their respective diplomatic missions in Dhaka in organizing the fair. In this year’s event, the Philippines was joined by 20 other countries. END
