PH Consulate General in Xiamen Reaches Out to Filipinos in Quanzhou, Jinjiang, Shishi

XIAMEN 27 March 2019 — As part of its mandate to assist Filipinos under its jurisdiction, the Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen conducted a consular outreach on 11 March 2019 at SM Jinjiang Function Room in Jinjiang City as part of its contribution to the relevant provisions of the Migrant Worker’s Act, the Philippine Government’s gender and development (GAD) program, and on Overseas Absentee Voting (OAV).

The activity focused on explaining labor market restrictions and labor laws and regulations in mainland China, and the importance of obtaining proper documentation, including registration of marriage and reports of birth.

In his opening remarks, Consul General Julius Caesar A. Flores cited the importance of observing Chinese laws through proper documentation for the duration of the overseas Filipino workers stay in China.

Consul General Flores advised the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) present to coordinate their documentation needs with the Consulate General for proper guidance, and encouraged them to constantly check the Consulate General’s website and WeChat account for important reminders and announcements.

He also encouraged the attendees to report soonest to the Consulate General any untoward development regarding their situation so immediate assistance could be extended.

Representatives from the Consulate General also briefed the Filipinos on the rules and procedures of voting for Halalan 2019, as well as the process and requirements for the application for Exit Clearance prior to repatriations, registration of birth and marriage, and renewal of passports. The lecture was conducted in Filipino with the view to provide the OFWs a better understanding of the documentation matters.

An engaging question and answer followed after the lecture, and one-on-one consultation sessions were held.

Filipinos in attendance also witnessed the swearing-in of the new officers of the primary Filipino organization in Quanzhou City, the Filipinos in China (FINCH). END
