Filipinos Bring PH Flair to Kenyan Ballet

PHOTO: The Philippine Embassy in Nairobi attended the premier of “Don Quixote” presented by The Academy of Dance and Art at the Kenyan National Theater on 23 March 2019.

The production features Filipino choreographer Arnie Unayam in the lead male role as Basilio.  A choreographer affiliated with the Academy of Dance and Art, Mr. Unayam studied Technical Theatre at the De la Salle-College of Saint Benilde’s School of Design and Arts and danced with the Filipinescas Dance Company under the Direction of Leonor Orosa Goquinco.

“Don Quixote” was produced by Artistic Director Robert Policarpio, formerly of the Philippine Ballet Theatre and Ballet Philippines. He expressed his appreciation for the Embassy’s support for The Academy of Dance and Art.

Charge d’Affaires, a.i. Francis Maynard S. Maleon congratulated Messrs. Unayam and Policarpio after the show and thanked them for bringing Filipino flair and talent to Kenyan ballet. He expressed hope that more Filipino talents could grace the Kenyan stage. (Nairobi PE photos)
