PH Embassy in Moscow Holds Kapihan Sa Pasuguan on Russian Migration Law Awareness

MOSCOW 28 March 2019 – The Philippine Embassy in Moscow held a special lecture on Russian migration laws as part of the celebration of International Women’s Month as experts from the Safe House Foundation briefed the members of the Filipino community on Russian Migration Laws at a lecture entitled “Migration: Laws, Risks and Dealing with Authorities” on 17 March 2019.
In his remarks, Ambassador to Russia Carlos D. Sorreta highlighted the importance of knowing the local laws and how to deal with unsafe situations.
“Majority of Filipino workers in Russia are women and are vulnerable due to the type of work they do. It is important for them to take precautions in order to ensure that they are in safe working environments,” Ambassador Sorreta said.
The Safe House Foundation is a non-profit organization that rehabilitates victims of human trafficking and educate at risk groups.
Migration lawyer Varvara Tretyakova provided an overview of Russian Migration Laws, Risks of Migration, Violation and how to deal with authorities.
Programs Coordinator Veronica Antimonik discussed insights on violence, exploitation and human trafficking.
Case Officer Elena Plotnikova also gave examples of cases involving gender violence handled by Safe House Foundation, and gave the audience suggestions regarding the different interventions and assistance that can be provided for such cases.
Fifty members of the Filipino community attended the seminar, majority of whom were women. The seminar was received positively by the audience, with many of them expressing their interest in attending more seminars in future. END
