ROME 01 April 2019 – In celebration of the 15th Women with Disabilities Day, personnel of the Philippine Embassy in Rome and its partner agencies huddled together after work on 25 March 2019 to increase their awareness on how to treat clients who are classified as women with disabilities.
Embassy personnel watched videos showing the plight of women with disabilities and the issues confronting them. Afterwards, they watched informative videos that discuss who constitute women with disabilities and how to treat them. One of the videos featured the common mistakes committed by people in the customer service industry in dealing with people with disabilities, and showed the proper way of handling their concerns.
Another video showing how women with disabilities can make meaningful contributions to society was also shown as it highlighted this years’ theme, “Sabay-sabay, Pantay-pantay sa Pag-unlad ng mga Kababaihang May Kapansanan,” announced by the Philippine’s National Council on Disability Affairs.
Proclamation No. 744 dated 06 December 2004 declares the last Monday of March of every year as Women with Disabilities Day.
Proper treatment of persons with disabilities has always been advocated by the Embassy, as it ensures the provision of priority lane to persons with disabilities when rendering consular services and assistance to nationals. END
