PH-Czech Republic Strengthens Economic Cooperation at the First Joint Economic Consultation in Prague

PRAGUE 03 April 2019 — The Philippine Embassy in Prague has successful concluded the first Philippine-Czech Joint Economic Consultations (JEC) from 28 to 29 March 2019, hosted by the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade in Prague, Czech Republic.
The JEC meeting was co-chaired by Trade and Industry Undersecretary Ceferino S. Rodolfo and Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade Vice Minister Vladimir Bartl, assisted by Trade and Industry Assistant Secretary Ann Clair Credo-Cabochan, and Czech Industry and Tade Director Petr Kulovany. A business delegation from both sides also participated in the JEC from both food and non-food sectors.
The JEC included discussions on broad economic areas of trade promotion, industrial and technical cooperation in the field of investments and banking, manufacturing, environmental technologies and equipment, agriculture and food, energy, transport infrastructure and equipment, health, tourism, human capital development and innovation and disaster risk reduction and management. among others.
Philippine officials took note of the Philippine regime introduced by Czech Republic to complement its manpower needs. A Philippine electronics company IMI, based near Pilzen, is interested to tap this program, according to Undersecretary Rodolfo.
A Memorandum of Intent was signed between the Board of Investments and the CzechInvest for their mutual cooperation.
The inaugural JEC was a result of the Economic Cooperation Agreement (ECA) signed in July 2019 in Manila, followed by the signing of the Instrument of Ratification by President Rodrigo Duterte on 03 April 2018.
The Department of Trade and Industry will host the second Joint Economic Consultations in Manila next year. END
