PH Takes Part in 16th ASEAN-Canada Dialogue in Ottawa

OTTAWA 04 April 2019 — Global Affairs Canada hosted senior officials from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Member-States and ASEAN Deputy Secretary General Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan for the 16th ASEAN-Canada Dialogue from 25-26 March 2019 in Ottawa.
Myanmar, the current country coordinator for ASEAN-Canada dialogue relations, co-chaired the meeting with Canada.
The annual meeting reviewed ASEAN-Canada Dialogue relations which are now in its 42nd year, took stock of new and emerging issues, and discussed the future direction of enhanced relations.
ASEAN senior officials also tracked the progress of implementation of the Plan of Action 2016-2020 that guides cooperation across all three pillars of ASEAN Community building, which incorporates gender focus under Canada’s Feminist Foreign Policy, the ASEAN Declaration on the Gender-Responsive Implementation of the ASEAN Community Vision 2025, and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Discussions covered a broad range of issues that included regional and global developments as well as cooperation on issues such as counterterrorism, transnational crime, trade and investments, education, transport connectivity, energy, agricultural cooperation, climate change, disaster management and emergency response, maritime cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges.
