JAKARTA 05 APRIL 2019 – The Philippine Permanent Mission to ASEAN’s Third Secretary and Country Representative to the ASEAN Women’s Circle (AWC) Angella Gilberto L. Alfafara and Cultural Attaché Maria Cecilia P. Wenceslao attended the AWC ceremony, where the selection of its 2019-2020 Executive Committee were announced at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta.

During the event, outgoing AWC President Sari Percaya reflected on the highlights of last year’s AWC initiatives, which included outreach programs and fundraising activities, proceeds of which were donated to various charitable institutions in Jakarta, such as the Masyrakat Peduli Autis Indonesia (MPATI), a non-profit foundation that supports young people with autism.

In 2018, the AWC also contributed funds towards aid relief in Lao PDR after a dam collapsed and donated hygiene kits for the rehabilitation projects undertaken by Caritas Manila to assist women and children affected by the conflict in Marawi.

The AWC is composed of spouses of diplomats and officials from ASEAN Member States. Its membership is also open to members of the Filipino community. The AWC aims to promote ASEAN solidarity and friendship through various socio-cultural and related activities. END
