MOSCOW 08 April 2019 – In celebration of the National Women’s Month, the Philippine Embassy in Moscow conducted a series of activities which were aimed at inspiring and empowering women to be agents of change.

The Embassy hosted the “Kapihan sa Pasuguan” for three successive Sundays of March 2019, where various topics were discussed by experts in their respective fields – on 17 March, Russian women’s advocates from “Sisters” and “Safe House Foundation” delivered a lecture on “Migration: Laws, Risks, Dealing with Authorities” to orient on the rights and limitations of foreign tourists and temporary migrants in Russia. Meanwhile on 24 March, a lecture on personal security, sexual assault prevention, and residential security and fire safety entitled “Kaligtasan at Seguridad: Pinoy Laging Handa” was presented by Defense Assistant TSg Pablito Igne.

On 31 March, Moscow-based Filipino massage therapist Jaylyn Balino delivered skills training on “Wellness Therapy: Hilot Healing”. These activities also served as platforms for the Filipino community to discuss good practices, challenges, and commitments in pursuing gender and development. The Embassy also joined various celebrations of Women’s Month organized by FilCom organizations.

To promote awareness of women’s health and to encourage healthier lifestyle, Zumba sessions were also organized for the Embassy staff and their family members.

As a major highlight to this year’s celebration of the Women’s month, the Embassy signed a partnership agreement with “Sisters Center”, a Russian women’s rights NGO, on 27 March.  The said partnership agreement, signed by Philippine Ambassador to Russia Carlos D. Sorreta and Sisters Center Executive Director Zamotaeva Nadezhda Alexandrovna, aims to further enhance the Embassy’s ability to deal with cases of sexual violence committed against Filipino nationals in Russia.  Aside from providing counselling and therapy services to victims, Sisters Center will also provide the Embassy with information materials, hold educational activities, and assist in drafting information paraphernalia on preventing and dealing with sexual violence.
