PH Consulate General in Toronto Conducts Info Session on Dual Citizenship, Consular Services

TORONTO 09 April 2019 – The Philippine Consulate General in Toronto, together with some of its attached agencies, conducted an information session on dual citizenship and other consular services at the Kalayaan Cultural Community Centre on 30 March 2019.
Deputy Consul General Bernadette Therese C. Fernandez gave a presentation on the importance of reporting to the Consulate General vital events in the life of Filipinos abroad, including birth, marriage and death. Consul Edna May Grecia-Lazaro discussed the effects of reacquiring or retaining Filipino citizenship under the Citizenship Retention and Re-acquisition Act of 2003.
Social Security System (SSS) representative Nilda Guiang discussed the process of how to become an SSS voluntary member and how to reactivate membership in SSS without need of going home to the Philippines. Pag-IBIG Fund representative Elizabeth Borres was also on hand to discuss the various savings and investment schemes available to overseas Filipinos.
Meanwhile, Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) Mirasol Ebron briefed the participants on the various services and programs of POLO to ensure that the labor rights of Filipino workers are protected. END
