TOKYO 17 April 2019 —Philippine handicrafts dazzled shoppers at the much-anticipated 2019 Asia Ladies Friendship Society (ALFS) Bazaar on 10 April 2019 at the ANA Intercontinental Hotel in Tokyo.

Products ranging from lamps, hand-crafted jewelry, bags, and home accessories were eagerly snapped up by buyers who complimented excellent Philippine craftsmanship.

With the participation of all embassies from the Asia-Pacific region and the local government of Kumamoto Prefecture, the diverse bazaar provided Japanese shoppers with an opportunity to buy unique and authentic products from different countries of the region in a one-stop-shop.

Shoppers also enjoyed the “taste of the region” at the numerous food booths which completed the bazaar.  Philippine delicacies became an instant hit with the crowd lining up at the Philippine food booth.

One of the significant features of the bazaar is its partnership with different non-government organizations for the elderly, women, children and other vulnerable groups which are chosen by the participating embassies from their home countries. Also, one of the Japanese non-governmental organization (NGO) participants sold items produced by their Philippine NGO partner. The proceeds of the one-day event are turned over to the chosen beneficiaries.

The ALFS Bazaar is an annual undertaking by the Asia Ladies Friendship Society and members of the diplomatic corps, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. END
