DAMASCUS 17 April 2019 — The Philippine Embassy in Damascus joins the nation in commemorating the 77th Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor) through a flag raising ceremony followed by a screening of a documentary produced by the Department of National Defense, “A Legacy of Heroes”, on 09 April 2019.

The Embassy personnel was joined by the wards of its Filipino Women Resource Center (FWRC) during the flag raising ceremony, wherein the message of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on the event was read.

“As we hold this solemn observance, it is my hope that we will all be inspired to remain steadfast like our forefathers and their allies in upholding our sovereignty and in protecting the rights and freedoms that our people enjoy today,” part of the President’s message said.

Emphasizing the importance of the celebration, Third Secretary and Vice Consul Al-Bari B. Macalawan enjoined all Embassy personnel and wards of the FWRC wards to reflect on the sacrifices of the Filipino veterans who fought alongside American soldiers to defend the country against invaders.  Before the start of the documentary film screening, Vice Consul Macalawan also gave a brief rundown of events of the commemoration.
