NAIROBI 17 April 2019 — The Embassy of the Philippines in Nairobi commemorated Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor) with a film screening of “Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral” on 09 April 2019.

Over 150 persons composed of members of the diplomatic corps and international civil servants, Filipino community members, and Kenyan fans of Filipino telenovelas, were present during the screening.

Embassy Charge d’ Affaires, a.i. Francis Maynard S. Maleon expressed his appreciation to TBA Studios for permitting the Embassy to screen the film for free and hopes that the film screening will open the Kenyan market to Filipino Films.

He hoped for the continued support for the “efforts of the Embassy to raise awareness and recognition to Filipino artistic accomplishment at its highest level and to encourage creative expression as significant to the development of a national cultural identity wherever it may be.”

“Goyo” is 2018 Philippine historical epic film which features Filipino hero General Gregorio Del Pilar, the youngest general of the Philippine wars in the early 19th century. It stars Paulo Avelino in the titular character, who died at the historic Battle of Tirad Pass during the Philippine–American War.

The film screening is part of the Philippines’ commitment to promote culture and the arts through film as well as to pay tribute to Filipino spirit embodied by the brave men and women who fought hard for the Philippines to attain freedom. END
