Hundreds of OFWs in Cambodia Avail Government Services at 10th Multi-Agency Service Mission

PHNOM PENH 17 April 2019 – Filipinos working and residing in Cambodia flocked in record-breaking numbers to the Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh and availed of frontline government services at the 10th Multi-Agency Service Mission (MASM) held from 06 to 07 April 2019.
In the biggest-ever staging of the one-stop shop event, the Embassy announced that almost 800 Filipinos were provided services ranging from the processing of Overseas Employment Certificates (OEC), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) membership registration and renewal, issuance and renewal of National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) clearance, renewal of (LTO driver’s license, opening a Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) savings account, processing applications on Housing and Multi-Purpose Loans and the Modified Pag-IBIG II (MP2), PhilHealth membership updating and registration, and consultation services on civil registry concerns.
Eighteen representatives from eight government agencies, namely the Department of Labor and Employment’s Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) and OWWA, LTO, NBI, Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), PhilHealth, Home Development Mutual Fund (Pag-IBIG Fund), and the DBP, participated in the bi-annual event initiated by the Embassy since 2013.
The Embassy’s consular section was also open during the weekend to process passport renewals, issue and renew Embassy identification cards, process civil registry records, and perform notarial services.
Filipino community members hailed the conduct of the one-stop-shop MASM, as it enabled them to avail of onsite document processing and services from various agencies, which would have taken them several days to complete if done in the Philippines.
“The Embassy continues to exert all efforts in responding to the needs of the growing number of Filipinos in Cambodia. From four government agencies in 2013, we now have eight. And because of the clamor from our kababayans, we invited the LTO to come and provide their services in Cambodia this year,” Ambassador to Cambodia Christopher B. Montero said.
Rens Leony Maglacion wrote on the Embassy’s Facebook page, “Maraming salamat po Ambassador Christopher Montero at sa lahat ng staff ng Philippine Embassy for bringing the government services here in Cambodia. Satisfied po kami noong pumunta kami last Saturday. God bless po sa inyong lahat! (Thank you very much Ambassador Christopher Montero and to all the staff of the Philippine Embassy for brining services here in Cambodia. We are satistfied when we came last Saturday!)
Another overseas Filipino worker (OFW), Xtian Serrano, also wrote, “Ganyan kami ka swerte dito sa Cambodia... napakabait and accommodating pa ng mga staff jan.” (That is how lucky we are here in Cambodia…the staff are very nice and also accommodating.)
The Embassy schedules the conduct of the MASM prior to a long holiday in Cambodia when most OFWs go home to the Philippines for vacation. Instead of transacting business directly with frontline government offices in Manila or in the provinces, OFWs are able to spend more quality time with their respective families during their holidays in the Philippines.
