JEDDAH 26 April 2019 – An overseas Filipino worker from Zamboanga who works as a systems analyst in Jeddah was the first among 437 registered voters who cast their ballots on 13 April 2019, the first day of overseas voting for the 2019 Senatorial and Party List Elections.
Leviticus De La Torre, 28, said he considered casting his vote and voting early as his “patriotic duty.”
The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah opened its six precincts for the elections at exactly 8:00 a.m. After some preliminaries including allowing the watchers to check the voting machines once again and reminding them of their duties, the voting promptly began and was conducted in a generally peaceful and orderly manner.
As of the second day of the month-long electoral exercise, a total of 734 persons have cast their ballots. Overseeing the overseas voting in Jeddah, Consul General Edgar Badajos said he expects the number of voters to increase in the days ahead.
There are 325,000 registered overseas voters in the western region of Saudi Arabia. END
