PH, UNESCO Stand in Solidarity with France After Notre-Dame Cathedral Tragedy

PARIS 26 April 2019 – At the plenary meeting of the 206th Session of the Executive Board, the Philippines joined Member States in expressing sympathy and support to the French Government following the fire that struck the Notre-Dame Cathedral on 15 April 2019.
Members of the Executive Board conveyed full solidarity and determination to support the restoration of the Cathedral and to share the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) expertise in this task. “This is an opportunity to reaffirm our unwavering attachment to the protection of world heritage, an objective that the United Nations has set itself through UNESCO.”
Located in the heart of Paris, the Notre-Dame Cathedral is a powerful symbol not only of France, but of humanity as a whole because of its exceptional architecture, spiritual function, its place in history and its literacy and artistic legacy. This is the Outstanding Universal Value recognized and honored by UNESCO in 1991, when it included the Cathedral in the World Heritage List. END
