Mayor Buchanan was elected into office in October 2018.
Consul General Austria shared her eagerness for the Filipino workers and immigrants in Canada to be able to have their credentials recognized so that they could reach their full potentials and better contribute to the country’s economy. In particular, Consul General Austria sought the Mayor’s insights on finding pathways that would allow Filipino registered nurses who work as caregivers in British Columbia to practice their profession.
Mayor Buchanan, who pursued a career in nursing before entering politics, acknowledged their predicament and suggested that the Consulate General make representations with the province’s nursing regulatory bodies and unions. She also expressed great admiration for the family-oriented values and dedication to work of Filipinos in North Vancouver. (Vancouver PE photo)
