PH Embassy in Saudi Arabia Concludes First Week of Overseas Absentee Voting, Urges Filipinos to Vote

RIYADH 26 April 2019 – The first week of the month-long overseas absentee voting (OAV) concluded on 19 April 2019 at the two locations under the jurisdiction of the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh.

Voter turn-out for the first seven days of overseas voting at the Embassy and the International Philippine School in Al Khobar (IPSA) was modest. In Riyadh, a total of 2,694 cast their votes representing 1.59 percent of registered voters while 1,526 voted in Al Khobar or 2.84 percent of  registered voters.

There are 169,401 registered voters under the Certified List of Overseas Voters (CLOV) of the Embassy while there are 53,801 registered voters in Al Khobar.

Philippine Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Adnan V. Alonto reiterated his call for all registered overseas voters in Saudi Arabia to cast their votes early and avoid the usual huge crowds on the final days of voting. 

Ambassador Alonto remains hopeful that the voter turnout  will eventually increase adding that the Embassy has put in place adequate measures to ensure the orderly conduct of overseas absentee voting. END
