PH Donates Filipino Books to Malta Libraries

ROME 02 May 2019 – As part of the Embassy’s cultural diplomacy efforts, the Philippine Embassy in Rome and Sentro Rizal Rome Branch donated Philippine books to the Multicultural Library Project of Malta Libraries on 23 April 2019 at the Central Public Library in Floriana, Malta.

The Embassy has jurisdiction over Malta.

The book donation was made as part of the commemoration of Libraries Day 2019 by Malta Libraries, the government entity managing all the public libraries of Malta including the country’s National Library and the Central Public Library.

Ambassador to Italy and Non-Resident Ambassador to Malta Domingo P. Nolasco led the Philippine donation of a 12-volume set of the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Encyclopedia of Philippine Art. The encyclopedia is the most authoritative and comprehensive source of information on Philippine art and culture, covering the peoples of the Philippines, architecture, visual, arts, films, music, theatre, broadcast arts, and literature.

Along with the encyclopedia, also donated were copies of the trilingual edition of “In the Hour of the Merchant and Felon,” a collection of poems by National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Chairperson and Philippine National Artist Virgilio Almario.

“Given the fast-growing Filipino community in Malta, donating Philippine books to Malta Libraries will not only give access to publications on Philippine culture to Filipinos migrants, but also to interested Maltese readers and researchers. This helps is creating mutual understanding and trust between Filipinos and Maltese,” said Ambassador Nolasco.
