Consulate General Extends Services to Fil-Ams in Michigan

CHICAGO 07 May 2019 –The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago conducted its second outreach of the year at the Philippine American Cultural Center in Southfield, Michigan (PACCM) on 27 April 2019 to bring much-needed passport and other consular services to Filipino Americans residing in the state.
A total of 158 passport renewal applications were processed in addition to 62 dual citizenship petitions and 53 documentation service applications.
In continuation of the partnership between the Consulate General and U.S. federal agencies, a mini-forum was held, where Ms. Lolita Davis of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and Ms. Mary Beth Foy of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) spoke about their respective agencies’ mandates and services and how they protect workers’ rights.
Consul General to Chicago Gina A. Jamoralin delivered her remarks calling for Overseas Voters to exercise their right and duty to vote and informing the public of other programs of the Consulate General. Deputy Consul General Romulo Victor Israel Jr. also gave a presentation on the 2nd Midwest Youth Leaders in Diaspora (YouLeaD) Immersion Program slated for 03-09 January 2020 and open to Filipino-Americans, 18-25 years old, to rediscover their roots in the process of becoming future community leaders.
Honorary Consul General Dr. Jose Evangelista and Honorary Consul Attorney Marcus Evangelista also talked about the services they provide, including assistance to Filipino nationals in distress.
After the program, a luncheon meeting between Consul General Jamoralin and leaders of various community organizations, facilitated by Dr. Evangelista, took place also at PACCM.
Ways of strengthening cooperation and unity of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities, supporting Filipino community projects and welcoming newly arrived immigrant families from the Philippines were discussed in the highly productive meeting. END
