PH Consulate General in Chicago Holds First 2019 Consular Outreach in St. Louis

CHICAGO 07 May 2019 — Upon the request and in partnership with the Filipino American Association of Missouri (FAAMO), Philippine Consulate General in Chicago conducted a consular outreach on 13 April 2019 at St. Louis, Missouri.
The outreach, which was held at Day’s Inn in Lindbergh Boulevard, attended to about 367 applicants for e-Passport, civil registration, and notarization and authentication of documents. The consular mission team also processed 66 applications for dual citizenship and provided information and advice on various issues related to adoption, correcting entries in civil records, and retirement to the Philippines.
Led by FAAMO President Ronni Watkins, the organization’s leaders and members served as volunteers, providing logistics and keeping the lines and flow of applicants pleasantly in order. A number of applicants came as far as Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and northern Texas.
Headed by Consul General to Chicago Gina A. Jamoralin, the consular mission team was composed of Consul Melchor Lalunio Jr., Jerwin Mamalateo, Sheridan Sabeniano, Cornelio Santiago and Fritz John de Jesus. With the team was Rajah Tours International Chairman Alejandra C. Clemente, who joined the activity to promote tourism and travel to the Philippines, including the 2019 Very Important Pinoy “VIP” Tour (13th Ambassadors’ Tour) scheduled this 14-21 July 2019.
The Consulate General and FAAMO arranged a formal program on the sidelines of the outreach, which featured short presentations on issues that directly affect the lives and livelihood of all Filipinos in Missouri. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Acting Director Lloyd Jack Vasquez Jr. touched on the subject of discrimination and equal employment while Ms. Kathy Talbot Schehl and Ms. Cindy Flynn of Region 14’s National Labor Relations Boardgave an overview on workers’ rights. On the other hand, Human Trafficking of the International Institute of St. Louis (IISL) Program Manager Whitney Howland for discussed the scourge of trafficking in persons.
Consul General Jamoralin took the opportunity to launch the Youth Leaders in Diaspora (YouLEAD) Immersion Program II, scheduled on 03-09 January 2020 in the Philippines. The Consulate General co-implements the Program with the Commission on Filipino overseas (CFO). YouLEAD is designed to help young Fil-Ams trace their roots, discover their heritage, and realize their potential as up-and-coming leaders in the community through a better understanding and appreciation of their ethnicity.
US Midwest YouLEAD II is a follow up to the first US Midwest YouLEAD that was successfully completed on 3-9 January 2019 in the Philippines, where 12 Filipino-American youths participated. END
