Chicago call of BSU research team call1

03 March 2014 – A team of researchers from the Bukidnon State University (BSU) paid a courtesy call to Philippine Consul General in Chicago.

The BSU team was in Chicago from February 13 to 21 to conduct research at the Field Museum on the personal effects, instruments, clothing, implements and weapons from the Bukidnon of Mindanao, which are part of the artifacts collected by Fay-Cooper Cole during the early part of the 20th Century, during his journey to the Philippines.  The team also conducted research on the audio recordings of songs of the Bukidnon, also collected by Fay-Cooper Cole, which are in the archives of Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.


The team is composed of the following:  Mr. Dante Victoria, Dr. Joy Mirasol, Mrs. Wilma Gregory, Dr. Beverly Bicar, Dr. Beatriz Garcia and Mrs. Mercibelle Barroso-Abejuela.

The BSU team visited the Consulate General on February 18, where they discussed their current projects.   The team members visited the Field Museum and were given access to the Bukidnon artifacts in the Museum’s archives.  Both the Field Museum and BSU agreed to cooperate in identifying the artifacts held by the museum.

The BSU team also traveled to Indiana University in Bloomington to listen to audio recordings of songs of the Bukidnon, which were stored at the archives of Indiana University.  Dr. Alan Burdette, the Archives’ Director, assisted their tour. In both visits, the team was accompanied by Vice Consul Ricarte Abejuela III.

The team was thankful to the Consulate General for facilitating the visits to the Field Museum and Indiana University. END
