Consul General to San Francisco Meets Fil-Am Community in Consular Mission in Reno

SAN FRANCISCO 15 May 2019 — In line with its objective to bring consular services closer to Filipinos in the United States, the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco held a Consular Outreach Mission in Reno, Nevada on 27-28 April 2019.

Consul General to San Francisco Henry S. Bensurto Jr. and nine personnel from the Consulate General travelled to Reno to provide consular services, such as passport renewal, dual citizenship, notarials, and civil registration. About 400 individuals were served by the Consulate General team during the mission.

Consul General Bensurto also took the opportunity to meet with the Filipino-American community in Reno, to update them on the Consulate General’s programs, primarily its Spark*Connect*Empower (SCE) Movement. The SCE Movement aims to spark love and passion among Filipinos, including those of Filipino lineage – both at home and abroad – about their Filipino culture and heritage; connect them with one another; and; in the process, empower them as individuals and as a community.

He encouraged the Filipino-American community to be active in engaging the community and even the larger Filipino-American community in the U.S., by continuing activities and projects that promote greater understanding of Philippine culture and heritage, especially among the younger generation.

The community, led by the Filipino-American Alliance of Nevada (FAAN), has been supportive of the Consulate General’s consular outreach missions. The group underscored that it will continue to support outreach missions in the service of the Filipino-American community.  END
