With Filipino Roots, Sentro Finds Its Place in Helsinki Culinary Mainstream

HELSINKI 15 May 2019 – Along the quiet Pieni Roobertinkatu in Helsinki, one finds Sentro with its warm and savory dishes in a laid-back setting.
Sentro is the newest restaurant promising “a gastronomic journey through Asia. The restaurant's team have Filipino roots, who offers some of the favorite Asian dishes, including much-loved Filipino dishes.
For starters, one can have the sisig spring roll, based on a popular Filipino street food, and made of grilled pork belly and calamansi (Filipino citrus) mayonaise. One may opt instead for trio kilawin, cured salmon in tamarind sauce and a white fish in calamasi sauce. Kilawin is the Filipino counterpart of ceviche.
For a main dish, there is the crispy pork adobo, Sentro’s imaginative interpretation of the classic Filipino dish known all over the world, or try steak kaldereta, a Spanish-inspired stew, which Sentro serves with an entrecote of foie gras. For those with sweet tooth, the tropical cheesecake of tropical fruits, coconut cream and coconut crumble biscuit would be an ideal ending of the meal.
Sentro will not only nourish but will also warm the heart. The restaurant a celebration of the optimism and talent of the Filipino diaspora. Sentro is a product of 15 to 20 years of experience as chefs of its four Filipino owners, who have worked in five-star hotels, cruise liners, casual and fine dining restaurants all over the world.
Ambassador to Norway Jocelyn Batoon-Garcia and Consul General Mariel Algabre of the Philippine Embassy in Oslo, together with Philippine Honorary Consul General to Helsinki Jyrki Kupila, and Consul Teresita Ruutu, had a delicious sampling of the dishes in Sentro. The promotion of Philippine cuisine is one of the Embassy's priorities, which also covers Iceland, Finland and Sweden. END
