SANTIAGO 16 May 2019 – As part of its economic and other bilateral efforts to deepen engagement between the Philippines and Chile, the Philippine Embassy in Santiago welcomed high-level delegation members from the Department of Finance (DOF), the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), the Senate, and Congress at the Chancery in Las Condes on 28 April 2019.

The delegation briefed Ambassador-designate Ma. Teresita C. Daza on the successful outcome of their seven-day study tour in Chile entitled: “Meeting and Knowledge Sharing on Mining Tax System and Tax Policy and Administration Reform.”

Ambassador Daza highlighted the importance of maintaining close cooperation and exchanges between the Philippines and Chile on taxation, the mining sector and mining tax revenue collection, but equally underscored the importance of environmental protection, social responsibility and sustainable development to complement these good financial practices and regulations.

The World Bank-sponsored study tour was organized as part of the Philippine government’s ongoing preparation toward major tax policy and administration reform to arrive at a simpler, fairer and more efficient tax system—one that promotes investment, job creation and poverty reduction.

The Philippine delegation, accompanied by Embassy officials, met with counterparts from Chile’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Mining Ministry, Treasury, Budget and Internal Revenue Offices throughout their week-long visit

The high-level delegation will be conducting a similar study tour in Peru from 29 April to 01 May 2019 in collaboration with Peru’s Ministry of Energy and Mining, Superintendencia Nacional De Administracion Tributaria (SUNAT) and other stakeholders. END
