NAIROBI 18 May 2019 — Ambassador to Kenya Alex G. Chua welcomed the Filipinos in Nairobi to the newly-inaugurated Embassy grounds at the Filipino Family Day 2019 to celebrate Filipino Heritage Month on 12 May 2019.
In his remarks, Ambassador Chua expressed his appreciation to the Filipino community for their enthusiasm for their Filipino identity and for sharing with their community their values, traditions and culture.
The Family Day began with a Filipino Mass concelebrated by Father Eric Dula and Father Eutiquio Mula, Jr.
Madamme Marie Marla Chua also led the Embassy staff in a medley of dances featuring Filipino Original Pilipino Music (OPM) pop hits of the 1990. She explained that she chose OPM because “Philippine culture and heritage is dynamic and continuously evolving, and the 90’s is a part of our history and our heritage.”
More than 150 participants, composed of Filipinos with their families and friends from Kenya and other countries, participated in the Family Day which featured song and dance numbers from talented Filipinos.
There are approximately less than 350 Filipinos in Kenya, mostly based in Nairobi. END
