SANTIAGO 20 May 2019 — Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Policy Enrique A. Manalo conducted a lecture on the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) at the Academia Diplomática de Chile – Andrés Bello in central Santiago on 09 May 2019.

Undersecretary Manalo discussed the rich history of ASEAN and its foundations, the Community’s Vision and Blueprints, ASEAN’s Three Pillars, and the Philippine’s priorities and participation within the organization.

The Foreign Affairs Undersecretary explained ASEAN’s and the Philippines’ initiatives on key regional issues, including terrorism and violent extremism, developments in the South China Sea, the Korean Peninsula, the Rakhine State, and other non-traditional security matters.

With his long and rich experience in the Philippine foreign service, he also addressed inquiries from the Academy’s more than 30 foreign service cadets—ranging from ASEAN integration, United States-China trade war, science and technology projects within ASEAN, to global migration issues. END
