PH Consul General in Los Angeles Calls on Los Angeles County Sheriff

LOS ANGELES 24 May 2019 – Consul General in Los Angeles Adelio Angelito S. Cruz, together with Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles Political Officer and Consul Rea G. Oreta, paid a courtesy call on Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva at his office in the Los Angeles Hall of Justice.
Consul General Cruz conveyed his felicitations to County Sheriff Villanueva for winning the seat in the 2018 statewide California General Election. In response, the County Sheriff expressed his gratitude and assured the Consul General of the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s (LASD) cooperation in ensuring the welfare of Overseas Filipinos under LASD’s jurisdiction.
The County Sheriff was also pleased to inform the Consul General that Filipinos and Filipino-Americans in Los Angeles country, considered as the third largest group, are generally peaceful and law-abiding residents.
The two also discussed possible collaboration in the areas of human trafficking, cybersecurity and promoting diversity and gender equality in local law enforcement institutions.
The meeting was concluded with a discussion on the available 2,000 positions to be filled-in the LASD’s human resource. The goal is to make 20 percent of the new hires female.
LASD is a law enforcement agency is considered as the largest Sheriff’s Department in the world. END
