LAS VEGAS 28 May 2019 – In the spirit of unity in diversity with the Asian-American community, Consul General to Los Angeles Adelio Angelito Cruz led a team from the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles to participate in the 2nd Annual Asian Culture Day on 17-18 May 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Consulate General delegation together with Dr. Michael Sta. Juana, host and segment producer of Fil-Am TV on Asian News, welcomed Songspell Philippines Inc., a homegrown choral group from Davao, who rendered a performance during the countdown at Fremont Street.

During the Asian Culture Day countdown, Asian countries rocked the stage with their own rendition of  traditional and contemporary dances and songs of their respective national dress.

At exactly 12 midnight, Consul General Cruz declared the official opening of the 2nd Annual Asian Culture Day. Upon his declaration, the 2019 Asian Culture Day video presentation played in the Fremont Street Light Show, a famous tourist attraction in Las Vegas, featuring the largest light screen ceiling in the world.

Featuring the products of various Asian countries, Consul General Cruz recognized the collaborative efforts of Asian culture organizations for arranging the event. He also emphasized the importance of such an event as it promotes Asian cultural identity and it recognizes the contribution of Asians in shaping the American history.

Since its inception in 2015, the Asian Culture Alliance (ACA) has been organizing the Asian Culture Day celebration. In 2017, Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval signed SB175R1, a law declaring the observance of May 18 as Asian Culture Day throughout the State of Nevada. Nevada is the first state to adopt a statewide celebration of Asian Culture Day.

Consul General Cruz is accompanied by Consul Rea Oreta, Vice Consul Dyan Pastrana, Ma. Dolores Sales, Judelyn Cuaresma and Joss Leaño. END
