PH Consulate General in Jeddah Holds Banyuhay, to Celebrate National Heritage Month, National Flag Day
JEDDAH 06 June 2019 – In celebration of National Heritage Month, the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah held “Banyuhay: Mga Pamanang Pansining Ng Filipinas,” on 30 May 2019.
Consulate General officers and staff, attached agencies, and security personnel sported Filipiniana attire representing the pre-colonial, Spanish, and Post-colonial eras of the Philippines during work hours. The activity aims to promote to the Consulate General’s Filipino and non-Filipino clients the metamorphosis of Philippine fashion since the earliest recorded time in Philippine history.
Acting Head of Post Consul Mary Jennifer D. Dingal said the activity aims to evoke a sense of pride among Filipinos in Jeddah of the rich history and culture of the Philippines through the evolution of fashion from the different periods in the country’s history.
“With awareness and greater appreciation of Philippine history and cultural heritage, Filipinos, no matter how far they are from their country, will have a stronger and more rooted Filipino identity,” Consul Dingal added.
That same day, the Consulate General also celebrated the National Flag Day through the hanging of Philippine flags within its premises, and a flag-lowering ceremony, marking the last working day for the week at the Consulate General. END
