MEXICO 06 June 2019 – The Philippine Embassy in Mexico attended the inauguration of the exhibit “Submerged Concerns: Between Manila and Puebla, the Representation Dilemma” by Filipina artist Caroline Ongpin at the Museo Taller Erasto Cortes (MUTEC) in Puebla, Mexico on 01 June 2019.

The exhibit features Ms. Ongpin’s use of the “aguafuerte agrabado” (engraved etching) technique with copper plates. The printed work resembles islands, which Ms. Ongpin used as her inspiration for her collection.

Ms. Ongpin is currently a scholar and artist-in-residence of the Arquetopia Foundation, one of the most renowned non-profit cultural institutions in Mexico and Peru. “Submerged Concerns” is Ms. Ongpin’s first solo exhibition outside the Philippines, and her second residency with the Arquetopia Foundation.

In 2017, she was awarded a grant from the Cultural Center of the Philippines to present a solo exhibition from December 2017 to February 2018, where she showcased works using gold leaf techniques she learned during her first residency with Arquetopia in Mexico.

“Submerged Concerns” will be displayed at MUTEC until the third week of June. END
