PH Ambassador to Oslo Conducts Lecture on PH Costumes, Textiles

OSLO 17 June 2019 — Ambassador to Norway Jocelyn Batoon-Garcia delivered a lecture entitled, “A Glimpse of Philippine Costumes and Textiles” to the 40 members of the International Forum on 06 May 2019.

The lecture is also based on a book of the same title by Ambassador Batoon-Garcia and Second Secretary Princess Tomas-Tayao.

The Ambassador gave a briefing on the materials and designs of the traditional costumes of various ethnolinguistic groups in the Philippines, including those in the Northern, Central and Southern Philippines. The evolution of the national costumes and their different permutations were discussed, as well as the concept of Filipiniana.

The International Forum is an organization, which consists of foreign and Norwegian women, including spouses of former foreign ministers, diplomats and business persons, who work to promote friendship, tolerance and understanding among people of different cultures. The members reside in Norway permanently or for a period worked in a variety of diplomatic positions or international businesses.

The event was also held in observance of the Philippine National Heritage Month in May. END
