PH Embassy in Dili Holds Cultural Night 2019
TIMOR–LESTE 17 June 2019 — The members of the Filipino community in Timor–Leste, Timorese guests and members of the diplomatic corps attended the Philippine Cultural Night celebration organized by the Association of Filipinos in East Timor (AFET), in coordination with the Philippine Embassy in Dili, at Salao Cathedral in Dili on 09 June 2019.
The cultural show portrayed the life of “Juan Dela Cruz” though a series of performances about traditional songs, language and arts, folk dances, beliefs and traditions, and Filipino way of life. The diversity and richness of Filipino culture was exemplified throughout the show, which featured distinct Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao culture.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador to Timor-Leste Abdulmaid K. Muin attested that songs and dances indeed play a central role in the daily life of Filipinos. He thanked AFET and the Filipino community in Dili for making the cultural night successful and meaningful.
Among the dances performed were “Jota Quirino” of Quezon Province, “Salidumay” of the Igorot tribe, “Gaway-Gaway” of Visayas, and a modern dance with the tune of “Kanta Pilipinas” sung by Filipino music icon Lea Salonga.
The program was concluded by renditions of “Mamang Sorbetero,” “Ili-Ili Tunog Anay,” and “Ugoy Sa Duyan.” END
